⚠️ Renter Safety Policy
Essential guidelines to protect yourself from scams
🚨 CRITICAL WARNING
Never send money before seeing the vehicle in person!
1. Never Pay Online Without Seeing the Vehicle
Do NOT send money, deposits, or payments unless you are physically present with the vehicle.
Common scams include:
- Fake listings with stolen photos
- Hosts requesting advance payment via wire transfer
- "Too good to be true" pricing
- Requests for payment before meeting
If a Host refuses to meet in person, it's likely a scam. Walk away.
2. Inspect the Vehicle Before Payment
Always inspect the vehicle thoroughly before handing over any money.
Check for:
- Matching photos (verify it's the same vehicle)
- Mechanical condition (test drive if possible)
- Damage, scratches, or hidden issues
- Valid registration and insurance documents
- Host's ID matches vehicle ownership
3. Meet in Safe Public Locations
Only meet Hosts in well-lit, public areas.
Recommended meeting places:
- Police station parking lots
- Busy shopping centers
- Gas stations with security cameras
- Public parking areas with foot traffic
Avoid isolated locations, private residences (unless verified), or meeting at night.
4. Verify Host Identity & Ownership
Confirm the Host is who they claim to be.
Verification steps:
- Request government-issued ID
- Verify phone number matches listing
- Check vehicle registration/title (must match Host name)
- Look for "Verified" badge (basic check only, not a guarantee)
- Search Host's name for complaints or red flags
5. Avoid Hosts Who Refuse In-Person Meetings
If a Host insists on online-only transactions, it's a major red flag.
Warning signs:
- "I'm out of town, send payment first"
- "Vehicle is stored elsewhere, pay deposit now"
- Pressure to pay immediately
- Refusal to provide phone number or meet
- Vague or evasive answers to questions
Legitimate Hosts will always meet in person. Walk away if they won't.
6. Report Suspicious Hosts Immediately
Help protect other Renters by reporting scams.
Report if you encounter:
- Fake listings or stolen photos
- Hosts asking for payment before meeting
- Misrepresented vehicles
- Fraudulent identity or documents
- Aggressive or threatening behavior
Hosts with 7 verified scam reports are permanently banned.
